As a recent house buyer I like to maintain my property. I could and do spend hours cutting grass, pulling stumps and shoveling dirt.

Weightlifting. And I don't mean bro curls and lat raises to impress the cardio bunnies.

Everybody better put down snowball fighting...

I couldn't help myself. But I do not partake as I do not have snow in the desert...

I am very much into hiking. I hike pretty much every weekend from April through November. A little in the winter too, though not as much.
I'm a certified, card-carrying, granola-eating hippie.

How could I forget to add weightlifting.

Weightlifting, jiu jitsu, muay thai, mma, and a little boxing, because I'm not a cardio bunny.

Baseball, swimming and track in my younger years; until last year triathlons (had to stop because of shoulder surgery) and now 5K runs.

I know that feel.
It really does become an "activity" and it never ends. The list seems to grow faster than you can get through it.

I'm into everything. Right now I'm customizing a pair of headphones for my GF (the customizing business, in the future, will hopefully put steak and potatoes on the table- it's ridiculous fun and somewhat constructive), building a dropped+kitted Electra 225 model, wiring together a mind-control machine, doing a pen+ink study of Norman Rockwell's "Four Freedoms" painting, building a concert-quality sound system out of bits I found at the local scrap exchange (WHY did somebody throw away a perfectly good JBL woofer and Yamaha tweeter? And a mint-condition (except for some cracking on one example) Sharp set? WHY?), re-assembling a remote control car, playing Minecraft (not anymore, the environment's just too poisonous... and nobody sells inoculations against 12-year-old ragers...), playing Need for Speed ProStreet on the Wii, writing a comics script, writing a novel, writing a short story, doing a book cover I hope to pitch to TOR or Baen (another dream job)... and homeschooling.

I used to do a lot of running too ( although I usually keep to 3K as I was a sprinter in my younger years), Multiple knee, shoulder, and back injuries / surgeries took me out too, but I am trying to get back to it.

Can't believe I forgot this. I grew up [lol] on a river and used to kayak ALL the time. I still keep 2 kayals at my fathers place for when I go visit. (There is no water in the desert where I now reside, so no kayaks for me)

Out of sight, out of mind. So it goes.
I just got into it last year. Going full on this year with sevral trips across the state. Kayaking is a new favorite thing of mine. Especially point-to-point camping trips.
Currently brainstorming ways to fasten the kayak to my Miata windsheild frame and roll bar.

Computers and Robotics.
Especially robotics. Though more of the team and less of the actual building. I'm just one of the cogs in the machine, helping to teach and mentor the students in the black art known as "getting that whore Inventor to work properly."
Here's a pic!

Maybe you need to include some money making projects into your list?
![]() 02/17/2014 at 14:45 |

Boats, kayaking, fishing, making fishing lures, SCUBA, spear fishing, hunting, minimalist camping, hiking, guns, archery, brewing beer, drinking beer, bowling, golf, travelling around Latin America, cooking, playing guitar, woodworking and tinkering on shop equipment, and really any other monetarily prohibitive hobby you can think of.
I kind of collect hobbies and spend way to much money on them. It's a problem.
I'm also writing a novel. Might actually finish this one.

I played rec league football so hard, I tore my Medial Patello-Femoral Ligament. Like a boss!
I don't recommend it, it really really hurt, and I had to miss a week of work. Got me off of my weightlifting game too!

It does get addictive.
I had an ocean fitted rig I once tested in a hurricane (okay, the hurricane was still WAY off shore, but we did have high winds and high swells because of it). I made it about 12NM out going head on before I was nearly completely exhausted from fighting the wind and the waves, but it was so much fun (although not very safe and I wouldn't recommend it)

My other solo sports include badminton, ping-pong and billiards. Also is taking long walks considered hiking if it's done in urban environment?

Where do you do your hiking? I've hiked up and down the east coast, and made a trip to the Arizona desert, but still haven't hiked the Pacific Northwest. I'd love to make it there someday.

I play lots of Kerbal Space Program, and I go shooting and hiking when I can. I also go skiing when the snow is good and there's money.

Long walks on the beach barefoot? NO.

Music! I've played cello and sung since I was a kid. In the past five years I've picked up the piano and ukulele. I've just started learning how to play acoustic guitar and I hope to buy an electric guitar setup sometime this year. Also on the musical to-do list: convince the priest at my local church to let me practice on this badass instrument:
Other than music, I enjoy running 5k-15k's. I used to go sailing with my dad every weekend, but unfortunately he sold his boat last year. I don't really have any more time for anything else since I'm a full time student!

Planespotting. I guess that counts as "outdoor activity".

Haha. It does sound cool. But what it basically means is that I'm way too impulsive and I make bad financial decisions.

Umm, more like walking around the city for no particular reason other than getting some fresh air and car spotting.

Speed walking I think maybe. or just extended walking (I mean it is a hell of a lot more than what the people fighting over the front spot at the grocery store do, right???)
![]() 02/17/2014 at 15:03 |
|
Yeah, but I might need it before then
![]() 02/17/2014 at 15:03 |

I used to love planespotting as well! The only problem is that the nearest airport (that has more than one plane per hour) is an hour and a half from where I live, so driving there is a bit cost prohibitive.

I'm preety much into computer hardware, gaming and I love modding my Android phone and I used to mod my old Sony Ericsson phones.I don't watch any other sports other than motorsports simply because they're boring in my opinion..the only sports I'm good at are running(speed) and armwrestling(good considering my weight).I also love listening to Trance music and some other electronic music. And I drink too much. ._.
![]() 02/17/2014 at 15:09 |

Bowling, RC airplanes, aviation, movies, tv....

I race a different kinda Hudson than one might imagine. Full carbon fiber mono, bonded aluminum and max fluid dynamic stability.
Th best sport for your heart, period. Rowers have greater avg heart wall thickness than even swimmers. Very meditative when you get good enough to keep consistent and hear nothing but the boat rigging and the water. The lack of resistance after a strong stroke is impossible to describe, almost like a good road bike. You feel fast.
![]() 02/17/2014 at 15:12 |

That thing looks intense!

I'm an occasional hiker, but am frequently outside doing property maintenance stuff.
What about indoor activities?
I cook, read books, draw(occasionally for money). I'm also a huge nerd, so I have an extensive comic collection, play video games when time allows, and I'm also an amateur movie snob, with a 600 plus strong collection of films I actually paid money for.
![]() 02/17/2014 at 15:15 |

Cars has always been my biggest passion, but I also collect toys, specifically Lego, diecast cars, and 12" GI Joes. I'm a big NY Knicks fan and I enjoy playing basketball in the warmer months and my girlfriend and I enjoy tennis as well. I also smoke pot, so there's that.
We're both fairly boring.

Sure makes me appreciate the structural powers of CF. When I started in highschool we had to race Cornell University's old, heavy ass fiberglass and wood boats- one of which they used for ice breaking at ramming speeds. By the time our humble club could afford carbon fiber we were on the podium every regatta.

lol. I bought a Jeep so my dog would have space in the back (fold all the seats down and what not). She has to forcefully climb her way into the front and ride shotgun every time.

I absolutely love skiing, and I can snowboard a little too, but it's the speed and grace of skiing that attract me.
I've dabbled in distance cycling too, but nothing too deep. Just the occasional ride from London to Brighton (56 miles) for charity.

I used to play basketball, then I got bored of it. I also used to play baseball for about 3 or 4 years, liked it but I wasn't great. As of now, I am not big on sports, playing or watching.
